Van Alstyne News — Police Blotter
Between January 12 and 18th, Van Alstyne Police made one arrest and investigated 3 traffic wrecks, as reported by Assistant Police Chief Steven Hayslip. They are now making preparations for the upcoming predicted snowfall.

Arrest
January 17 – Just before 7 pm, Van Alstyne Police were sent to U.S. Highway because of a reckless driver call. Upon arrival, they saw the described vehicle and saw it not staying within a single lane and so, initiated a traffic stop on US 75 at Sanford Circle. The driver gave them a phony name, but they soon learned his real name and that he was a Dallas resident. They also smelled the strong odor of an intoxicating beverage and noticed his physical behavior showed multiple signs of intoxication. They jailed the suspect on Charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Failure to Identify.
Grayson County Jail records show that the suspect remains incarcerated, being held $3,000 bail and also on an ICE hold.
Crashes
January 14 – About 4 pm, a vehicle was going south on Hill Street when approaching the Tooley St. intersect on. The driver attempted to make a left turn at that intersection when it another vehicle . There were no injuries reported.
January 15 – At 8 pm, police were sent to the area of West Van Alstyne Parkway and Henry Hynds regarding a motor vehicle crash. The report said that one driver lost an item in his vehicle which, although the report doesn’t say that, he/she might have been searching for it. That’s when the second vehicle struck it, causing some damage but no reported injuries.
January 17 – Just after 7:30 pm, a vehicle traveling southbound on US 75 struck the center barrier and flipped over. A secondary crash resulted from another vehicle, trying to avoid the overturned vehicle, swerved in front of a semi-truck and was struck. The driver of the initial vehicle was taken to the hospital with apparent minor injuries. There were no injuries on the secondary accident.
