“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” – Bob Marley
Sunday, at Love & War in Plano, there was no pain in the patio. The music of The Trophy Wives hit the audience somewhere right between the brain and the heart.
The show was the third in the Lone Star Underground with Big Gus series being held every Sunday through December. After that, it will move to Thursday nights at Love & War. And don’t worry about getting cold out there through the winter – the patio is completely covered, and surrounded by temporary, with some heaters thrown in for good measure. In fact, even with Sunday’s unexpected rain coming down, the patio was comfy and cozy.
Next Sunday, Nov. 27, will have Holland K. Smith on the corner stage at Love & War. It starts at 4 p.m. and all of these concerts are sponsored by Lone Star Beer.
Especially so was the patio comfy with the Trophy Wives on stage. The band is Alexis Sanchez on vocals, Michael Talley on bass, Nate Wegan on drums, and usually David Ponder on lead guitar. Sunday, Wade Cofer sat in for David, and then there were a couple of guest lead guitarists on stage during both sets.
This young roadhouse blues band couldn’t help but show their rocks roots, but that was thrown into the mix of classic, current, and original blues songs. At first, the set was pretty formal, but as time passed, it turned into a real feel of kitchen jam. The band is also unjaded. There’s no ego on stage, just some good friends having a good time with an audience of friends and friends they may not have met yet.
Big Gus jammed with them twice, and also on stage was Brent (SORRY, I never got his last name). In all, that opened up three electric guitars who swapped leads in bluegrass fashion.

I wish I could find some superlatives to describe the afternoon, “awesome” and “incredible” are overused, “talented” is understated. How about simply: “fun!” That works for me.
