Since December 14, Van Alstyne Police have made two arrests and investigated one 2-vehicle minor wreck. All reports came from PD Assistant PD Chief Steven Hayslip.

Wrecks

December 18 — About 11:23 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on N John Douglas and E Cooper streets. They made the stop after they saw the vehicle being driven on a public roadway with defective equipment (tag lights) and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

Upon getting the driver’s identification, they learned there were two active warrants out for his arrest. They placed the suspect in Grayson County Jail on the warrants.

The suspect was an Anna resident. His bail was set at $500 on each of the two warrants, and he remains incarcerated, said GCSO Public Information Officer Jeremy Cox.

January 20 — Police were sent to the area of northbound U.S. Highway 75 at Rosemond about 3:42 a.m. on a report of a reckless driver. They were soon able to locate the described vehicle and the driver stopped for their patrol car’s overhead lights.

While talking with the driver, they smelled the odor of an intoxicating beverage, and noticed he had slurred speed, and watery, red and glossy eyes. They put the suspect through the series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and then jailed him on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated.

Once at the jail, officials placed an Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold on the suspect. His bail on the DWI is $3,000, but” Cox said, “the ICE detainer means he’s not getting out till that is handled.” His jail records show he is from Princeton.

Traffic Wreck

December 19 — At 2:30 pm, police reported on a 2-vehicle wreck. The first vehicle was stopped facing north in a parking lot. The second vehicle was behind it. The first one let off is brake to drive forward, but his vehicle rolled backwards into the second one.

There were no injuries, Hayslip said.
