Love & War and Brett Dilon — you’d think they would want to take a little pause, but it seems like every time the door opens, there’s some incredible music going on with them. At least during the night times, and on Sundays.

Tuesday night was one of those nights, where you went onto the heated patio and stepped into a myriad of incredible songwriters and singers, all there for one purpose. That was to qualify for a spot in the upcoming Rusty Wier songwriting contest. And eleven performers on that stage showed just how tough the competition already is. Tuesday (Dec. 20, 2011) was only one of several such Tuesday nights, all hosted by KHYI’s Brett Dillon. There’s been at least three previous Tuesdays and will be two more before the actual contest gets into full swing Sunday, Jan. 8.

Dillon said that the qualifying musicians will be notified after the last try-out night, Jan. 3, and so those artists will have to kick it into high gear for the next Sunday’s showcase.

Those competing Tuesday night were, Travis Parker, Lauren Whaley, Sy Simons, Jason Royall, Byron Dowd, Town Walsh, Kevin Clark, Rod Ballou, Randy Gartman, and Matt Dunn.

By the way, please remember that the Lone Star Underground, hosted by KHYI’s Big Gus Samuelson, is moving to Thursday nights at Love & War, beginning Jan. 5.

Here’s one pic of each of those 10
