Sunday brought a great day of blues to Love & War in Texas, the Plano store, in the toasty-warm outside pavillon with its temporary walls and heaters.

It was the stage action that really heated the place up. Pat Boyack, The Silvertones, and Aaron Burton picked almost non-stop for three straight hours. The styles were so similar, mostly traditional blues, and to have three lead vocalists thrown in with the guitars and drums was beyond awesome.

Aaron opened, solo, that is until Pat joined him onstage for the last three or so songs. Pat played more rhythm than lead, letting Aaron’s style continue to shine.

After the break, The Silvertones took the stage, with Pat joining them. He and Leo, lead guitarist with the Silvertones, swapped lead licks, back and forth with the skill of master craftsmen. Vocals were also shared, three of the four men on stage taking their turns at the mics. The band played without letting up until 7 p.m., giving more than they could have gotten.

Big Gus

This is the last Lone Star Underground show scheduled for Sundays at Love & War, but it will move to and continue on Thursday nights at the venue in January. Big Gus is doing the scheduling, and is bringing back Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch, Jeremy Lynn Woodall, and Holland K. Smith, not necessarily in that order, and also showcasing his band Swampadelic, which features more of the Louisiana swamp blues that the other bands.Watch SceneInTown.com live music calendar for these show listings. They’re all scheduled to run from 8-10 p.m.
