Together, Poor David’s Pub and Guy Clark make up more than 70 years of Texas music history.

It’s a rare occasion, not to be passed up — Guy Clark playing at Poor David’s Pub Wednesday night. It’s a second booking, since the first one (Thursday night) sold out in record time. Poor David decided to ask Guy to come a day early for one more show. Guy said, of course, “Of course.”

Songwriting legend Guy Clark is among the most often mentioned influences, affecting other songwriters for at least three decades. He doesn’t merely write songs, his songs project images and chargers and tell stories. They bring emotions to life (she ain’t going nowhere, she’s just leaving), tell about the most mundane of subjects (home grown tomatoes) to historical events with a tireless and careful mastery.

During those same three decades, Poor David’s Pub has proven true to unique and timeless music, centering around the best that Texas has to offer.
