Hank’s Open Mic Challenge, Finals — congrats to David Aguirre
For photos, click on the link belowEight talented musicians moved through three songs each, Thursday night, vying for a top spot in the Hank’s Texas Grill line-up. All done, it was 23-year-old, thumb-picking David Aguirre who will be featured at a future Hank’s concert.
Aguirre brought quite a number of fans with him, along with family, and had earned the respect of the other musicians throughout the contest.
Second place went to the folk-singing trio of Tipper/Rocko/Bryan, who will be opening for a major act at Hank’s. Jasper Bradshaw took away a $150 gift certificate to Hank’s and Kevin Edwards won a $50 gift certificate. Others participating were Cody Jackson, Bryan Adam Joyner, Crystal White, and Scott Sean White, and these had been emerged through another 20 or so who started out the first Wednesday in December.
It’s the 4th year for the open mic challenge at Hank’s, and this year Tyler Rogers hosted it all. Winners were chosen by audience reaction to their musical performances. While Tyler, Hank’s David Reynolds, and others compared their ‘applause meter’ notes, singer/songwriter Tony Ramey brought several of his songs to the stage, just because he loves to sing.
Tyler, before announcing the winning slots, told the crowd that he had entered several similar contests and not ever come out on top, but that he never regretted one single attempt, because he always came out with dozens of new songwriting friends and fans. Tyler leads the Tyler Rogers Band.
The contest will begin again in December 2014, and keep in touch here and/or Hank’s Texas Grill site for future announcements.
