Aubrey Lynn England, only two weeks away from delivering her third child, delivered a triumphant set Sunday (Sept.21, 2014) at Love & War in Texas. Following her was Chris Knight and his band, and both sets were broadcast over Dallas radio KHYI 95.3 airwaves.
England has one of the more powerful and true-to-pitch voices around. She and the band are known for their originals and for their individuality when covering other writers’ songs. Dancers, including some teens in the back and one tiny tot in boots in front of the stage, took advantage of the beats. As an aside, don’t forget about England’s annual “Witch Like Me,” Oct. 25 also at Love & War in Texas. Here’s a link to get more information on that fun fundraiser.
I
t was the third-to-final Shiner Sunday for this popular concert series for this year, and music fans packed the patio to soak in the fun and music before it comes to a close. Like my new friends who let me sit at their table, so many people got there early because, after all, it is Chris Knight! England commented and thanked Knight for hanging around for her show, too, sometime the headliners don’t usually do. As another aside, another regional favorite, Austin Cunningham, came and stayed for both bands.
Knight has so many hits, it could take him many more hours than allotted for him Sunday to present them all to the audience. But he certainly gave it a good shot — hit after hit after hit, with people singing along to every song. A master wordsmith able to create images where there were none before. “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Knight can create pictures with every line of every song.
This next week, Love & War is bringing in guitarist Monte Montgomery, with Chaz Marie opening for him. 4 p.m. And the final show, Oct. 5, has Van Darien opening for the unique and unparalleled songwriter Billy Joe Shaver.
