Hot Summer Nights, Music on Main kick off 2013 seasons

Both Sherman and Denison are about to launch their yearly concerts in parks, concert series which provide free and quality family entertainment to residents and visitors alike.
Hot Summer Nights, Sherman
In Sherman, the Hot Summer Nights series, themed “Everything Under The Stars, runs at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday night, also with the July 4th event moving to another city park. Hot Summer Nights is at the gazebo stage, Municipal Lawn, around Elm and Rusk streets.
Opening this year’s series is the swamp-a-tonk band, Big Gus & The Swampadelics on June 6. This Dallas-based band features guitar, horns, fiddle, steel guitar, stand-up bass, drums, and will have two sets of original songs. They combine the various influences and backgrounds of each band member, following the lead of Gus Samuelson, in a swamp-a-tonk style unique only to this band.
Following that are: June 13, Revoling Door; June 20, Bluefield Express; June 27, Tempting Diaster; July 11, Joseph Vinchelli; July 18, Irish Rogues; and July 25, The Royal Dukes Band. Blues, bluegrass, Celtic, classic hits, whatever one’s favorite style is, it’s going to be met in this series.
Missed the July 4th event in this schedule? That’s still in the planning phase, but “Stars On The Lake” definitely will move over to the Pecan Grove West Park off of FM 1417, and will include live music and dazzling fireworks.
Music on Main, Denison
Denison’s Music On Main begins Friday night, May 31, with locals Guymon & McCann pairing up again after a long absence as a duo.
With the exception of the July 4th fireworks concert, all Music on Main events will be at Heritage Park on Main Street in downtown Denison. They begin at 7:30 p.m. The July 4th event will be at Munson Stadium on that Thursday, with BluRock performing and with fireworks lighting up the Denison sky.
The remaining schedule is: June 7, The Bullwinkles; June 14, Fin City, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band; June 21, Hard Night’s Day, a Beatles tribute band; June 28, Shelly McBride & The Blues Others; July 12, The Honky Tonk Kings; July 19, Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch; and July 26, Wylie Kiotee & The Road Runners.

Organizers for both events encourage everyone to bring the kids, blankets for the ground, lawn chairs, and ice chests are allowed, but without any alcoholic beverages, since the events are on government properties.
There will be food, drinks, and other refreshments available for sale at both Music on Main and Hot Summer Nights, and remember, there’s never a cover charge for these concerts.
