Van Alstyne Police have been busy between today and June 26, just a few days ago. PD Lt. Steven Hayslip, Public Information Officer, reported on the following arrests and car wrecks.
Arrests
June 26 — At 1:18 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 75 at Farmington after seeing it traveling 81 miles per hour in ad 65-mph zone. The driver, a Tulsa, OK, man smelled strongly of an intoxicating beverage, so they had him go through a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST), and at the completion, they jailed him on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or more.
The jail magistrate set bail at $20,000, and the suspect paid that with a surety bond and was released later the same day.
June 27 — About 2:26 a.m., Van Alstyne police jailed a Sherman man on a charge of Assault Causing Bodily Injury. The officers were called to the residence on FM 3133 and Industrial Blvd. because of the assault. They learned that two police had been involved in a fight, or physical altercation. The initial investigation led police to know that the Sherman man had assaulted a female there. Van Alstyne paramedics checked her injuries out, but she was not taken to a hospital.
The suspect’s bail was set at $2,500, which he paid with a surety bond for his release.
June 27 — Just after 7:30 that morning, Police were dispatched to the area of Henry Hynds Expressway and Northridge in reference to a welfare concern. They located the described person as an Atlanta, GA, man, standing in the middle of the roadway. When they got out of their patrol car to make contact with the man, he reportedly jumped over a concrete barrier and into the highway. Police told him to stop, that he was being detained for being in violation of Texas Traffic Code. He continued to try to evade them, and when the officers did detain him, he resisted arrest. They placed him in Grayson County Jail on charges of Evading Arrest and Resisting arrest.
Bail was set at a total of $5,000 on the two charges, and as of Monday evening, the suspect remained incarcerated.
June 28 — About 10:30 pm, officers were dispatched to a reckless drive on U.S. 75 and Farmington. The reporting caller told dispatch they had seen the driver of the vehicle drinking an intoxicating beverage while driving. Police found the described vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The driver admitted to having been drinking while driving. The officers had him complete as set of the SFSTs, after which they jailed him on a charge of DWI with Open Container.
Bail was set at $1,500 on the charge, and the suspect, a Baytown, Texas, man, remained in jail as of Monday night.
June 29 — At 6:42 a.m., officers made a traffic stop on U.S. 75 and Farmington Road. Hayslip said they saw the vehicle being driven at 88 mph in a 65-mph zone. When they got the car stopped and made contact with the driver, a Wilmer, Texas, man, they discovered an outstanding warrant issued in Dallas County.
