A 5-piece bluegrass band out of Missouri, The HillBenders, made some waves, i.e.: new fans, at The Texan Theater in Greenville recently with their acoustic, bluegrass version of “Tommy.”

The HillBenders consists of Nolan Lawrence on mandolin, Mark Cassidy on banjo, Chad “Gravyboat” Graves on dobro, Jim Rea on guitar, and Gary Rea on doghouse bass. They all took turns at lead and harmony vocals.

And in spite of their overwhelming success touring with this unique version of “The Who’s” classic and multiple award-winner rock opera, these performers remained as friendly and comfortable to be around as one could even hope for. They spent time in the lobby following the show, talking and posing with people until the last fan had left the building.

The HillBenders will be playing the Old Settlers Music Festival, April 14 and 15, in the Driftwood area of Austin. And many of their recordings are available on iTunes, as well as at their live shows.
