Colder weather and the start of deer hunting season in Texas might have taken the toll on Saturday’s (Nov. 1) Po Boys Picnic, and to some extent the funds that were raised for the Allen Adams family to help with medical expenses for their precious baby, Ridge. But the one thing it didn’t phase was the fun the children — of all ages — had especially with the Little Britches Rodeo.

Ridge Adams was born with numerous heart problems, and medical expenses for all his doctor visits and such are considerable higher than the family’s insurance will pay. Those expenses are expected to continue well into the future.

Witnesses said, though, that several people who wanted to make direct donations were directed to visit with Courtney and Allen Adams, and some seem to be helping this Sherman family in person. Good news.

And on a side note, the family on the receiving end for a previous Picnic attended this one, too. Their son did well in the rodeo and their little girl, who is doing better with her medical condition, was able to participate in the stick-horse races. Also, good news, Courtney Allen, a stay-at-home mom now that Ridge needs her so badly, is already out making herself available to help other parents of newborn and older babies who are suffering from extreme medical conditions, too. Time to pay it forward, Courtney said.

The Po Boys Picnic crew will be meeting soon to set the date for the spring fundraiser.

And some special thank-yous — SO MANY DONORS for the silent and live auction, plus water and soft drink and other ways to help raise money; for all the volunteers, most behind the scenes, who made the rodeo, the horseshoe tournament, the music, and everything else work (and the volunteers have as much, if not more fun, than the participants); and to RWR Arena owners for their generosity; to Mark Bickham for all the great photos; KTen for all its promotional help; and most of all, to the incredibly good-sporty young cowboys and cowgirls out there roping and riding for all the marbles.

Hang onto your little britches, rodeo fans… there’s more coming up!
