Opening the day was Aubrey Lynn England, in her military uniform, belting out the Star Spangled Banner. Incredible. Others of more renown (you may know to whom I am referring) should stand up and take notice. Everyone at Love & War in Texas — Plano did!
Four Left Turns were a great selection of bands to open for Reckless Kelly at Love & War in the second of the 2011 Shiner Sundays (April 3, 2011). Trevor Pulver’s voice has a bass tone that is easy to listen to, and when Justin Whitehead jumps in on shared or harmony vocals, his higher-pitch is a perfect accent. Scott Thompson played a smaller, acoustic-style set of drums for the set, and knocked his rhythms out of the outside theater. Then, that combination, one at a time, of steel guitar and banjo added pizzazz to the set.
Reckless Kelly thrilled the packed house, especially pleasing one charming young 2-year-old who couldn’t leave the dance floor alone, her enthusiasm spontaneous and genuine as any adult or older child in the Rusty Wier outdoor stage. Cameras popped, whistlers plied their sometimes ear-shattering sounds, and all around were smiles, hugs, and good times. Reckless Kelly brothers Willy and Cody Braun led the group through countless of their hits plus a few surprises.
Next Sunday will have Saille Branch & The Big Benders opening for Jesse Dayton, 4-7 p.m. Love & War in on the east side of U.S. Highway 75 on Plano Parkway. You can’t miss it.
