The Dustin Perkins Band is playing Superbowl XLV. No, not on the field, silly, but in the exclusive Owner’s Club.

“It’s the chance of a lifetime,” said Dustin Perkins, talking about his band’s upcoming gig, booked at the last minute by the agency with which he signed about a month ago, Nvrdul. “When we first heard, we were all jumping up and down, stomping our feet, and now we’re in a tailspin,” Dustin said Wednesday evening.

That tailspin is not only because of the exclusivity of this gig for the Texoma band, but also and more-so because of the logistics involved. Perkins said they will first have to make certain they don’t leave any piece of equipment in Sherman. They must take themselves and their equipment through a security check at Cowboy Stadium Saturday. Then, they will move their equipment in and set it up, where it will remain in place overnight. That includes their guitars and drum sets.

And that created a problem for their Saturday night gig, which has been on the books for a while now. Perkins said they immediately began looking at ways they could rent or borrow equipment to fulfill their obligations at that venue.

The solution was a phone call away. Chance Cody & Spur 503 have been sharing stages, including the most recent on New Year’s Eve, since the Dustin Perkins Band officially formed in the spring. So, Spur 503 will be opening at the out-of-Texoma gig, and the DP band will use their equipment and it becomes a win-win for the club owner, fans, and both bands.

The Dustin Perkins Band has been gaining exposure and playing with more bands of regional renown over the past few months. Last week, they shared the Outlawz Club stage in Ardmore, Oklahoma, with the Eli Young Band and prior to that performed with the Casey Donahew and Josh Abbott bands at The Point on Lake Texoma. Dustin also moved up Sunday to the third level in a regional songwriting contest sponsored by Americana radio station KHYI.

Making up the Dustin Perkins Band are Perkins on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Nathan Brown on drums, Jason (Fuzzy) Smith on bass guitar, and Colton Gilbreath on lead guitar.

“This exposure is worth millions to us — to play in front of the people we’ll be playing for!  This is more than we could ever have anticipated,” Perkins exclaimed.
