Scene: Little Big Iron

Little Big Iron

What a great night of music and friends it was at the American Legion in Van Alstyne Friday night.

Little Big Iron delivered music that kept the crowd on its feet and on the dance floor all night long. Twist, two-step, almost everything but the tango. The line dancing was actually, the first time, in a line. Not a bunny hop, because everybody in the line created their own step style, but hands-on-hips line nonetheless. There was the most traditional line dancing, too, and everybody seemed to know the same dance.

And the crowd was friendly, almost all of them being from the same area — i.e. Grayson County or a few miles southward.

Little Big Iron is made up of Bill Capshaw on stand-up bass, Greg Guymon on guitar, and Fred Spears on mandolin. They all sing. Nope, you got it right. Dancers danced in spite of the band’s not having drums. Lots of classic, traditional country (none of the modern pop classified nowadays as country) and a little bluegrass.

There was a birthday cake for those having their birthdays in January, and even when the line dancers knocked some of the forks off the table, no one minded a bit. It was all about the fun and fellowship!
