A two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening (July 20) caused one car to go up in flames and the driver of the second car to go to jail on numerous felony charges.

Van Alstyne Police Lt. Steven Hayslip said the wreck happened at 5:45 p.m., sending Van Alstyne police, firefighters and paramedics to the scene. There, they asked for more help with traffic and received that help from both Anna FD and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at 5:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 75 at Van Alstyne Parkway (FM 121). The offending vehicle had rear-ended the vehicle in front of it and pushed that car off the highway and down the embankment. The occupants, two Dallas-area women and their two children, got out safely before flames erupted and fully engulfed the vehicle.

Hayslip said that paramedics took both females to local hospitals for evaluation and turned the children over to relatives. He added that neither appeared to be seriously injured.

Police jailed the suspect, Kathryn Denise Jones from Crowley, age 54, on four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, driving while intoxicated, and three counts of drug possession.

Grayson County Jail records showed bail was set at a total of $105,500, which the suspect paid the following day with surety bonds for her release.

NOTE:  Later the same day, police jailed a Tulsa, Oklahoma, woman on a charge of Driving while intoxicated.
