Kerrville New Folk songwriting contest now accepting entries

Attention emerging songwriters!

2016 New Folk Award Winners

The 2017 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk competition is accepting entries. A project of the non-profit Kerrville Festival organization, this New Folk competition has gone on for decades, and continues to appeal to songwriters from all across the U.S. and often from other countries as well. In all, nowadays, about 800 songwriters enter two songs each every year.

These songs are listened to, anonymously without any identifying information as to who the singer or songwriter is,  by a panel of presenters, artists, and music enablers, said Kerrville Producer Dalis Allen in a press release. From these entries, 32 songwriters are invited to play their submitted songs at the New Folk concerts during Kerrville Folk Festival’s first weekend, during the Memorial Day weekend.

From these, six are selected as New Folk Award Winners. Traditionally, these six perform later in the 18-day festival, and go on a short tour together later in the year. There’s other prizes and gifts, too, shown in the link below.

Now’s the time  and here’s a link to the Official Entry Guidelines.
