Chase Sanford Band, a day of it in Bonham

Chase Sanford Band

The Chase Sanford Band is moving mountains — well, at least along miles and miles of highway. This past weekend, (July 26)  they played an acoustic set at Rolando’s Mexican Food in Bonham, with Corbett, Chase, and Garry hitting the melodies while Jason and Sevans hit the enchiladas. Believe me, tho, the first three also munched down on some of Rolando’s great food after making some new fans and before leaving for the next gig

That next gig was at J.C.’s Whiskey River, a “real” bar just north of Bonham proper. This venue separates it live-music room from the regular bar area, probably keeping the live-music room closed most of the time and saving a lot of air conditioning — it is really nice and big. Good D.J. spinning tunes before and after Chase Sanford Band set, and crowds coming in droves when the Kucklehahn Rodeo shut down. Really nice, easy-to-work-with staff at J.C.’s, too.

Fans filled the room, and Chase and the guys rocked it. At some point, it might have been the rocking that broke a small water pipe in the roof, letting water drip into one of the huge trash cans near the back. Just kidding. But management did handle that boo-boo really quickly and quietly. Lead guitarist Garry Moore’s wife, Amanda Graves, sat in for one song. Amanda has led her own band, Shutdown Town, and has a dynamite voice and stage presence. Meanwhile, Sevans Henderson is on the north side, out of the spotlights, working his two or three keyboards like they were one simple one; he is amazing and has added such dimension to the band and its songs. Corbett Potter on drums works well with Jason Smith on bass; together, the duo’s teamwork moves and the beat never wavers. Of course, there’s Chase on lead vocals,

rhythm guitar, harmonica, and personality.

Sunday, (July 27), they moved on over to the coveted The Rustic in Dallas, with its outdoor stage for summer bands and indoor stage for acoustic and earlier-hour music. It’s Texas modern-day legend Pat Green’s place, and got a good dose of Texas grown southern rock and country music. They played several of the news songs from their sophomore CD, due out this fall. They rocked through crowd favs “The One You Want,” “Mojo Hand,” and Ramblin’ On,” along with songs from their debut CD “Honky Tonk Reject.” They played to a full house and are soon to become a DFW favorite. Waiting on that call to play it again.

Tuesday night, (July 29), Chase swapped songs, stories, and probably a few tall tales with songwriter Gary Kyle in Fort Worth, at a great little venue called Flips… doesn’t that just sound right for some tale-talking? Would like to have been a fly on that wall, or at least a spectator in the crowd.
