He’s in, then he’s out, then he’s back in again, then out. That was his experience on this season’s The Voice. But for the folks in his native Kerrville, Texas, Josh Murley is and will always be in, will be a star. And well-deserved acclaim, too. Josh Murley can sing, proverbially, his butt off. And pick a pretty mean guitar!

Josh and his 5-piece band which included another hometown music giant, Florin Sanchez III, on electric guitar, were among the acts at Kerrville’s now-annual Easter season chili cook-off, which this year also included a car show and lots of other entertainment for people of all ages and numerous vendors.

Josh had, also, Josh Colom on bass with him, who he called Redbeard for very obvious reasons; drummer Patrick McCorkindale; and a synthesizer/keyboard player, Daniel Elliottwho also belted out the trombone and the melodica with pizzazz to go along with his talent. Of course, Florin, a mainstay musician in the Texas Hill Country.

Josh is not what some people expect from Texas singers… in other words, he ain’t country. And in some of his songs, one could even hear a little bit of head-banger music waiting to get out. But if one needs a  a classification, let’s put him in the pop category. Or how about, “good music” category… It works…

Josh alternated between originals and covers, seldom slowing down between songs at all, and even performed one he’d done on The Voice. He did say, before cutting into “Run To You” originally by Bryan Adams, “I’d might as well do this one,” and the crowd loved it, too.

Those who were also there at the Easter event to hear Josh remembered when he would sing around the campfires at Kerrville Festivals. They said wherever he was singing was ‘the place to be,’ and that he made not only a musical impact there, but also picked up lots of friends and fans during those nighttime campfires that first sailed Michelle Johnson to stardom — ah, people know her now as Michelle Shocked! Sorry ’bout that.

Don’t believe for a minute that Josh Murley is down for the count. This guy will catch the right eye and ear and make it to the national level. He’s just that good!
