Dustin Perkins on The Foundry stage

Dustin Perkins played his first solo gig, after separating from the band he’s been working with for two years, Tuesday night at The Foundry in Dallas, or more exactly, in North Oak Cliff.

This venue is unique among even the more unusual venues in the Metroplex, in that so much of the bar, the restaurant, and the outdoor patio and stage are built of recycled, and oft discarded items. For instance, notice the sides and tops of the stage, built of discarded pallets, and the venue runs considerably on electricity provided by solar panels on tops of the buildings. And those buildings, at least those on one side, are discarded railroad cars, with one wall cut out and lowered to set  on the floors. Table tops are of re-purposed metal pieces, and so on it goes. In the patio is a fenced-in cactus garden, and the restaurant offers a menu unique in that it offers other-than-fried foods!

Dustin played on the large stage, illuminated as the sun turned the Dallas skies brilliant, in front of lights that kept him in perpetual sunset. Two sets later, he found himself talking with many new fans. He’s going to be playing solo for a few months, spending his extra time concentrating on his songwriting and working with his management company, The Periscope Group, on other career-building endeavors. More on that as things pop!
